ROC plans and manages its activities so that the associated occupational risks are contained to the lowest practical level and all of its worksites are safe and healthy places of work.
ROC recognises that it operates in an industry that must confront numerous health and safety risks to employees, neighbours and contractors. It has developed systems and procedures to contain and control these risks. While ROC's Safety Management System is rigorous and comprehensive, it also accommodates the different regulatory regimes that ROC operates in around the world.
ROC is dedicated to building and maintaining a robust and resilient business model to ensure that growth and value creation for our shareholders can be sustained.
In 2009 we established a sustainability framework to enhance our business model. The framework was developed with input from all levels of the business and was approved by the Board. The four attributes we consider fundamental to sustained value creation are:
- ensuring ROC's performance as a reliable and responsible employer;
- continuing our respect for the environment;
- fostering safe and healthy work practices; and
- continuing to be a trusted neighbour in the community.

Environment
In its field activities, ROC plans to restrict its environmental footprint to impacts that are both local and temporary. As with its health and safety management, ROC has developed formal systems and procedures to identify potential impacts that may be associated with each exploration or production project and to contain and control any matters to the most practical extent.
The standard of environmental performance that governments require of petroleum operators varies considerably around the world. While ROC always recognises and commits to the standards that are applied, in jurisdictions where environmental requirements are not well defined, ROC operates so that any impacts are contained to a level permitted by Australian regulations.

Community
ROC recognises that wherever it operates there will be people with legal, economic and emotional ties to the area. It seeks to engage and deal openly with community and personal interests in a sensitive, just and equitable way. ROC sees that it should not only be a good neighbour, but that it must also be a responsible local citizen in areas such as employment, local expenditure, training and support of local community initiatives.
